Institute of Medical Sciences BHU Varanasi was came into being as College of Medical Sciences in the year 1960.
Initially,
IMS BHU had only 9 Departments of Modern Medicine.In 1971, the college
was upgraded as Institute of Medical Sciences.Presently the Institute
has 33 Departments of Modern Medicine including10 Departments of
Super-specialities and 8 Departments of Ayurveda. Institute of Medical
Sciences, BHU is perhaps the only institute in India which offers
courses quality education both in the Modern Medicine and Ayurveda.
The
institute is located within the University premises, which
givesopportunity for research interactions with well equipped centres
ofexcellence in the University. Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU
is recognized by the Medical Council of India.The campus of IMS lies at
the front part of university. The campuscontains the medical college,
the hospital, the student and resident hostels,
the staff quarters, a post office, a famous temple (BHU Vishwanathji),
